"Sad"

Sometimes I hear that he feels sad.

When I hear that, I find myself annoyed.

It seems disingenuous.

“Sad” is a distancing word.  There is no responsibility in “sad”; it sounds more like a descriptor for a far-off tragedy, or for a tragedy that has befallen a stranger or someone with whom one is not well-acquainted.

“Sad” makes it seem like there was some predestined misfortune in the script,  something planetary, instead of a situation that occurred because of willful human neglect, uncommunicativeness, and deceit.  I almost feel that he has no right to say he feels “sad.”

In fact, I did feel sad for years and years: quite sad.

Now:  I am happy.
